Acclaimed actress Madhoo, who became a household name with iconic films like Phool Aur Kaante and Roja, is gearing up for an exciting phase in her career with two major releases arriving within just two weeks.
Her Hindi film Governor is scheduled to release on June 12, followed by the Tamil-Malayalam bilingual film Chinna Chinna Aasai on June 18.
For cinema lovers, Madhoo remains one of the most recognizable faces of the 1990s. She made a memorable Hindi debut opposite Ajay Devgn in Phool Aur Kaante, a blockbuster that launched both actors into stardom. Soon after, she delivered a career-defining performance in Roja, the classic directed by Mani Ratnam. The film not only earned nationwide acclaim but also remains one of Indian cinema’s most celebrated classics. Madhoo went on to establish herself across multiple industries with notable films such as Yoddha, Gentleman, Allari Priyudu, Diljale and Yeshwant, becoming one of the rare actresses to enjoy success in Hindi as well as South Indian cinema.
Speaking about Governor, which stars Manoj Bajpayee in the lead, Madhoo shared her excitement about being part of the film.
“One of my films releasing now is Governor. It stars Manoj Bajpayee in the lead, as everyone can see from the promotions. My role may not be a long one, but it is a sweet, important, romantic, gentle and truly special character. Sharing screen space with Mr. Bajpayee was a wonderful experience. The entire journey of being a part of this film felt magical,” she said.
The actress is equally passionate about her second release, Chinna Chinna Aasai, which she describes as one of the most meaningful films of her career.
“The other film is a Tamil-Malayalam bilingual called Chinna Chinna Aasai. For me, this film has been life-transforming in every way. We lived and worked in Kashi and Banaras for an entire month during the shoot. I have no words to explain what it feels like to be a part of this film. It is truly the best film of my career,” Madhoo said.
She further credited renowned composer Govind Vasantha for elevating the film’s emotional and spiritual depth.
“The music by Govind Vasantha has made this film divine. His compositions have added a soul and beauty that make the experience even more special,” she added.
Interestingly, even after more than three decades in cinema, Madhoo continues to reinvent herself with powerful and meaningful roles. While audiences still remember her as the innocent and spirited Roja from Roja and the charming leading lady of Phool Aur Kaante, the actress believes that some of her most rewarding work is happening now. She has successfully embraced a new phase of her career, balancing mature characters with stories that resonate emotionally and spiritually.
With Governor arriving on June 12 and Chinna Chinna Aasai releasing on June 18, Madhoo is set to offer audiences two completely different cinematic experiences—one alongside powerhouse performer Manoj Bajpayee and another that she describes as the finest and most transformative film of her career.
For fans who have admired her journey from Phool Aur Kaante and Roja to the present day, the coming weeks promise a celebration of an actress whose grace, talent and screen presence continue to endure across generations.
