MUMBAI, November 02, 2025: History was created on Sunday as the Indian women’s cricket team lifted their maiden ICC Women’s World Cup trophy, defeating South Africa by 52 runs in the final.
Set to defend their total, India sealed victory when skipper Harmanpreet Kaur took the final catch, sparking jubilant celebrations at the D.Y. Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai.

Earlier, openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma gave India a solid start, adding 104 runs for the first wicket. Mandhana scored 45, while Shafali top-scored with a fluent 87. Jemimah Rodrigues and Deepti Sharma steadied the innings further, with Deepti scoring an unbeaten 58 and Richa Ghosh contributing a brisk 34 off 24 balls, taking India close to the 300-run mark.
South African bowler Nonkululeko Mlaba was the most economical, conceding 47 runs in 10 overs and claiming one wicket.
Richa Ghosh also set a new record for most sixes hit in Women’s World Cup history, achieving the feat during the final.
The triumph marks a historic first World Cup title for India’s women’s team and a defining moment in Indian cricket.
