The Indian government has advised all Indian nationals in Iran to leave by available transport, urging caution, embassy contact and registration amid the evolving situation.
New Delhi, January 14, 2026: The Government of India on January 14, 2026, issued an advisory urging Indian nationals currently in Iran to leave the country by available means of transport, including commercial flights, in view of the evolving situation.
The advisory is in continuation of an earlier notice issued on January 5, 2025. It applies to Indian students, pilgrims, business persons and tourists presently in Iran.
The government reiterated that all Indian citizens and Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) should exercise due caution, avoid areas witnessing protests or demonstrations, remain in regular contact with the Indian Embassy in Iran and closely monitor local media for updates.
Indian nationals have also been advised to keep their travel and immigration documents, including passports and identity papers, readily available at all times and to contact the Indian Embassy for assistance, if required. The Indian Embassy in Iran has shared emergency contact helplines and an official email for support. Indians who have not yet registered with the Embassy have been asked to do so through the MEA registration portal or via their families in India in case of internet disruptions in Iran.
