UK, EU, Mexico, Venezuela, and New Zealand call for diplomacy after US strikes Iran. UK, EU stress nuclear threat; others urge peace and immediate dialogue.
New Delhi, June 22, 2025: British Prime Minister Keir Starmer urged Iran to return to the negotiating table, stating that regional stability remains a priority. A Downing Street statement on Sunday quoted Starmer as saying, “Iran’s nuclear programme is a grave threat to international security.” The statement added that Iran must never be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon and that the U.S. has taken action to alleviate that threat.
The European Union’s top diplomat, Kaja Kallas, also called for de-escalation and a return to negotiations following the United States’ strikes on Iranian nuclear sites.
Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil condemned the U.S. military action against Iran and demanded an immediate end to hostilities.
Mexico’s Foreign Ministry issued an urgent call for diplomatic dialogue, stating that restoring peaceful coexistence in the region is the highest priority.
New Zealand’s Foreign Minister Winston Peters described the U.S. strikes as “extremely worrying” and urged all parties to support diplomacy and resume talks.
