Akshay Kumar, Bhushan Gagrani, and Vishvas Mote spearhead the BMC MEGA tree planting campaign

MUMBAI: Together with Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani, Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar spearheaded a tree-planting ceremony that resulted in the planting of 390 trees as part of a major endeavor. The 300 Bahawa trees that will be planted along the Western Express Highway near Kherwadi were first planted at the event, which was coordinated by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in association with The Tree Authority, Fit Mumbai, and the Make Earth Green Again (MEGA) Foundation.

Akshay Kumar is honoring his late parents, Hari Om and Aruna Bhatia, with this endeavor. Prominent individuals include Bhushan Gagrani, the Municipal Commissioner of Mumbai, Vishvas Mote, the Deputy Commissioner, and Dr. (Hon) Anusha Srinivasan Iyer of the MEGA Foundation will be joining him. The occasion serves as a reminder of the teamwork required to battle climate change and advance greener urban environments.

This tree-planting campaign is a part of a bigger initiative to make Mumbai greener, and it’s in line with similar initiatives being carried out around the world to commemorate important environmental observances. Celebrities such as Hema Malini, Anil Kapoor, Shatrughan Sinha, Abhishek Bachchan, Sonakshi Sinha, Anupam Kher, Bappi Lahiri, Ajay Devgn with son Yug Devgn, Sonu Nigam, Sangram Singh, Ranvir Shorey and son Haroon Shorey, Rohit Shetty, and Ayesha Jhulka, among many others, participated in similar BMC-MEGA initiatives following Cyclone Tauktae. These campaigns highlighted the growing trend of enlisting public figures in environmental causes.

The environment is directly impacted by these admirable initiatives. In addition, planting trees encourages people to engage in physical activity and performs a much-needed digital detox, which helps to foster the Fit Mumbai Movement, which is led by BMC’s Shri Vishvas Mote.

Let us come together to make our city greener and honor the legacy of those who have contributed to our well-being.
