Amravati, October 28, 2026: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu wrote a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah seeking Central assistance in assessing the damage caused by Cyclone Arnab in the state. In his letter, the Chief Minister highlighted that the severe cyclone has caused extensive damage to crops, houses, roads, and electricity poles across the state. He urged the central government to swiftly dispatch assessment teams to evaluate the extent of the damage.
The CM stated that 16 NDRF and 11 SDRF teams have been deployed across 14 districts to carry out ongoing relief operations. He noted that over 28,000 people from the cyclone-affected regions have been safely evacuated to relief camps. The CM emphasized that thanks to the government’s precautionary measures, no loss of life has been reported so far. According to preliminary estimates, 180 houses were damaged and over 220 trees were uprooted on the roads.
The letter detailed that coastal areas suffered significant infrastructure damage, with roads destroyed and power supplies severely disrupted in multiple locations. He assured the Home Minister that electricity restoration works have been taken up on a war footing. Due to the heavy downpour, initial estimates suggest that paddy crops spread across 70,900 hectares are currently submerged. Additionally, preliminary reports indicate that horticultural crops across 10,450 hectares have been damaged.
The CM specified that districts including Konaseema, Kakinada, East Godavari, West Godavari, Anakapalli, and Krishna bore the brunt of the cyclone. He mentioned that control rooms and the State Emergency Operations Center are operating round the clock to monitor and manage the crisis. The state government is actively prioritizing citizen relief operations, focusing heavily on the immediate restoration of power and drinking water supplies.
A detailed, comprehensive report on the overall damage will be submitted to the Center soon, the CM added. He appealed for the continued support of the NDRF and other central agencies in the ongoing rescue and relief efforts. (Source: PIB / File photo)
