MUMBAI: Initiatives to replenish the planet’s vegetation are more important than ever in a world dealing with the effects of environmental degradation. Through widespread afforestation and sustainable practices, the BMC-Make Earth Green Again MEGA campaign, led by BMC Dy Comm Vishvas Mote and Dr (Hon) Anusha Srinivasan Iyer, aims to rejuvenate our planet. It is a collaborative effort by authorities, environmentalists, celebrities, activists, and citizens. This project emphasizes how crucial it is to work together to stop climate change and restore ecological equilibrium.
Vishvas Mote, Dy Commissioner, BMC, emphasizes the urgency of the mission. “Our planet is in dire need of rejuvenation,” he says. “Deforestation and pollution have led us to a tipping point. Through this initiative, we aim to reverse some of the damage and create a sustainable environment for future generations.”
Commonwealth Heavyweight Wrestling Champion Sangram Singh, renowned for his contributions to sports and fitness, has also joined the cause, leveraging his influence to inspire action. “Physical health and environmental health are deeply interconnected,” Singh asserts. “A greener earth means cleaner air, better water, and a healthier population. It’s time we all step up and contribute in whatever way we can. Otherwise there will be life on this planet.”
Environmental education and community involvement are pivotal aspects of this initiative. Dr (Hon) Anusha Srinivasan Iyer, a prominent environmental educator, highlights the role of awareness in driving change. “Education is the foundation of any movement,” Iyer explains. “By teaching people, especially the younger generation, about the importance of trees and sustainable living, we lay the groundwork for a greener future.”
