Manish Saini’s Gujarati comedy film ‘Jai Mata Ji Let’s Rock’ is a brilliant comedy drama that deftly makes fun of the elderly without hurting their sentiments.
The protagonist of the narrative is an 80-year-old widow (played by Neela Mulherkar) with two sons and grandsons who lives a middle-class life in a small Gujarati town. Following her sons’ abandonment, she briefly resided in an assisted living facility until being brought home one day by her older son, Tiku Talsania. The state government of Gujarat has in the interim created a program for its residents who are 80 years of age or older. Under the government proposal, each senior above 80 will receive one lakh each month. When her younger son Gulab (Shekhar Shukla) heard about the plan, he tried to bring her to his house in the hopes of receiving one lakh each month, but her older son was overjoyed. Tension between the brothers increased since they both wanted to keep her in their own home. Her story takes a turn, though, when her childhood boyfriend reappears and proposes marriage at this age as well. In front of the entire family, this was a truly eye-opening experience. The true core of the narrative is the climax. Therefore, one must watch it to find out what occurs at the end.
The film’s protagonist is senior actress Neela Mulherkar. She does a fantastic job of capturing the affection of the audience. Shekhar Shukla and Tiku Talsania’s performances are another standout feature of the film. On-screen chemistry between Vyoma Nandi and Malhar Thakar is remarkable. Other performers who have done well in their parts include Shilpa Thakar, Utkarsh Majumdar, Aryan Prajapati, and Vandana Pathak.
The charisma of Manish Saini’s direction is evident in this film. He has tried to make it funny in almost every situation. He expertly illustrated how people, even when it involves a member of their own family, can become so self-centered for financial benefit.
Even though it doesn’t play a significant part in this comedy-drama, Night Song Records’ music is nevertheless really good.
Overall, this is among the best comedy-dramas of the year. You should not pass it up if you truly enjoy comedies. Why wait, then? Go see it at the theatre that is closest to you.
