Mumbai, June 24, 2026: South Mumbai’s Prabhadevi station is one of the most important east-west bridges (popularly known as the Elphinstone Bridge) that connects Prabhadevi in the west to Parel on the eastern side. The locals of the area are eagerly waiting for the redevelopment work of Elphinstone Bridge to be complete.
This old bridge was completely demolished this year for the reconstruction of the new bridge. Currently, the piling work is progressing rapidly on both the east and west sides. The 113-year-old bridge was permanently shut to vehicular traffic on September 12, 2025, to allow for the clearance of approach roads.

While talking to a local, Santosh Kumar says, “We are eagerly waiting for the construction work to be completed. We are facing many problems since the old bridge is non-operational. We can go to the east side only either from Dadar’s Tilak Bridge in the north or from the Lower Parel Bridge in the south. Both sides of these bridges are quite distant from here. Hopefully the construction will be finished soon and will be open to the public.”
