Former U.S. President Donald Trump sustained a gunshot wound to the upper part of his right ear

July 13, 2024: At a campaign rally near Butler, Pennsylvania, former U.S. president Donald Trump, the Republican Party’s presumed nominee in the 2024 presidential election, sustained a gunshot wound to the upper part of his right ear. One audience member was killed and two others suffered serious injuries during the shootout. Trump was shot by Bethel Park, Pennsylvania resident Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, while he was addressing the crowd. Before being shot and killed by a Secret Service Counter Assault Team sniper, Crooks fired eight bullets from the roof of an adjacent building outside the event venue using an AR-15-style rifle.

Following the gunshot, Trump ducked under cover, only to be mobbed by Secret Service agents as they assisted him in standing up, his right ear bleeding visibly. He was then brought to a hospital. A few hours later, in stable condition, he was released. An attempted assassination is being looked into in relation to the shooting.
